What isn't going on around Marner Brown at the moment? The band is like a freight train hurtling through the night, laden with expensive and rare goods and jewels that no-one's seen yet. There is an unstoppable force field around them at the moment and anything's possible. Â
After supporting Ocean Colour Scene twice last year - playing to crowds in excess of 3,000 including a legendary show-stealing performance at a packed Astoria where OCS's frontman stated that it was the first time "in seventeen years we'd been worried about taking to the stage" - to being labelled on an Xfm phone-in as the best live act at Zoothousand8 (where Marner Brown again stole the show), not to mention three cracking sets at Glastonbury, this year looks to be even more in the ascendancy.Â
The year began in Monotwin's new studios, crafting and creating some awesome, catchy, pure rock 'n' roll tunes; the likes of which are achingly missing from today's current charts. Most recently they've been adding the finishing touches to these in Paul Weller's studio, following the Modfather seeing the boys support OCS again recently. It's almost as if the band are sharpening their weapons waiting for the right time to kick the door open and declare war.
Brands are circling and laying offers on the table, following the lead of recent and enduring associations with QUICKSILVER (for whom the boys have modelled and played gigs around Europe) and LEE COOPER. Check out Lee Cooper's website, and the "Spring/ Summer '09 video shot by Lee Cooper. EASTPAK and Marner Brown have now cemented a fantastic relationship and are in the midst of hatching some exciting plans. A great brand association for Marner Brown at the right time.Â
A gentleman by the name of Clive Underhill-Smith founded one of the original and most respected booking agencies in the U.K – Coda; he asked Marner Brown to support one of his flagship artists recently and his response was simply "probably the best live band I've EVER seen."
That's Marner Brown.Â
They're simply taking the baton of great British no nonsense guitar bands and running with it, and it's about time someone did.
With a global deal signed with Road Warrior Entertainment and an album to be recorded in New York in November, things couldn't look rosier.
There's been a yawning gap in British music for too long, be prepared for Marner Brown to fill it.Â
From the April issue of The Fly (Live Section).... 'Marner Brown have the accomplished bluster that only comes from knowing you're totally shit hot at what you are doing. Built on the foundations of great British rock'n'rollers, this lot have rumaged through the best of a bygone age, binging it up to the noughties with the same polish and bravado that made Noel Gallagher a millionaire many times over. In this instance, the result's not lad rock, though, but something more delicate and precious.' (Matt Thompson, The Fly)
